readings

while i have a number of workshops which i teach throughout each year in schools and state parks, i also offer even more of them during april in celebrating national poetry month. and several of them involve cross-curricular value in joining the subjects of science, language arts, and reading. offerings of poetry readings are primarily for my three-year poetry project on the manufacturing history of berks county, which involves three volumes of 25 poems each—the labors of our fingertips: poems from manufacturing history in berks county. these poetry readings are excellent as unique and brain-stirring programming in settings like schools, colleges, historical societies, retirement homes, senior centers, libraries, art galleries, and cultural centers. and i always welcome audiences to ask questions about poems or share stories in common with the content in the stanzas.

creating, organizing, promoting, and hosting other poetry readings as well as poetry and prose readings is also something i love to do as a way to promote the art of language in our local communities.

children’s poetry day

one past example of this is of a children’s poetry day at studio b in boyertown as an outlet to encourage children to write and share their own poems during april as national poetry month.

another example is of a prose and poetry reading called A•MUSE•D: readings by local writers also at studio b during an annual literary and visual arts exhibit.
