berks bards is a poetry-promoting nonprofit based in berks county in southeastern pennsylvania. the organization began in 1998. jennifer hetrick has served as president since 2018.
run by volunteers, we host and promote community poetry events around the region monthly and also annually for bard fest, what we call our way of celebrating april as national poetry month. we also promote calls for poetry submissions of our own and those hosted by other organizations.
(as of march 2020, we are migrating in-person schedule events to zoom, wherever possible.)
first thursdays at goggleworks center for the arts in the city of reading at 6 p.m.
a featured poet event, followed by a break and then a community open mic.
second tuesdays at aladdin restaurant in west reading at 6 p.m.
a community open mic.
a show on bctv involving interviewing a different local, regional, or out-of-state poet every month; it airs every second wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. and replays several times monthly. it’s also available to watch on youtube through bctv’s youtube channel.
a full lineup of poetry readings, open mics, workshops, one-minute poems as a call for submissions for individuals to read their poems to be shared through bctv, and other poetry-related events in april of each year in celebrating national poetry month.
